Check out the various ways the SGC benefits you!

SGC is now accepting requests for spring funding.

The first round of applications for SGC spring funding will be due on Friday, Feb 1 at 5:00pm. Then, you will have to have a representative who has knowledge about the funding request meet with the SGC Finance Committee the next week.  A second round of applications may be accepted in March if there are funds remaining.

Funding requests should be submitted on an event basis.  Please put thought and planning into your funding requests so that we know the money being allocated will be spent in the way proposed.  In this light, your funding request must include:
     a) Date and time of event
     b) Location of event (you should have the room booked)
     c) Target audience (ie. from what school/dept/program, please include how many people you expect)
     d) Intended marketing strategy (ie fliers, campus events calendar, broadcast e-mail through Ryan Gove)
     e) Detailed budget (do a little research on costs for supplies, where you will be getting food, etc)
     f) Other funding sources
     g) Groups that are co-sponsoring the event together

Applications for funding can be submitted via the request form below.  Please address all of the above bullets, including any extra information in the "Purpose of Funding"box.

Funding requests will be considered by the SGC Finance Committee, which will have a separate meeting at which a representative of your group must be present and be able to answer questions about the funding request.  A representative of your group will not be required at the actual SGC meeting.

Attorney Services
Part of the SGC budget is used to provide legal services to all students and residents currently enrolled at the KUMC Kansas City campus. Mark Grover will be our attorney for 2011-2012.

Due to the limited availability of appointments, these meetings are restricted to only those students who have legitimate legal concerns. Provided legal services can help with concerns of:

  • Domestic, Disability
  • Landlord/Tenant
  • Protection from Abuse (PFA)
  • Protection from Stalking (PFS)
  • Advanced Directives
  • Contract law
  • Others, on case-by-case basis

Dates for appointments will be announced via email, but generally take place once or twice per month. The attorney will be available for 20 minute meetings scheduled between noon - 2 pm at the dates listed below. Appointments are held in 3001D Student Center unless otherwise notified. To schedule an appointment, email calkins@kumc.edu.

More information can be found at: Student Legal Services.

Event Tickets
We will offer tickets to sporting and cultural events throughout the year to registered KUMC students, free of charge.

Distribution of tickets will be based on a lottery system and all currently enrolled KUMC students are allowed to enter. Lottery tickets will be given out from 4:00 - 4:40pm or 7:00-7:40am and the drawing will start at 4:45pm or 7:45am, respectively. We will draw numbers for as many tickets as we have to distribute. If your number is drawn, you will be able to choose from the remaining tickets. YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO RECEIVE TICKETS! We are unable to reserve or hold tickets for any reason. Tickets are usually given away in pairs.

You must have a KUMC ID to receive any tickets. To use the sporting event tickets (i.e KU basketball, football, etc.) you must also show your ID at the game. However, many of the cultural event tickets may be used by anyone, but must be picked up by a KUMC student.

Check the main page of this site for updates on ticket give-away times and location. This information will also be sent as a Broadcast email and posted in MyKUMC.

Please contact us if you have ideas on tickets that should be offered or ways to improve the system!

News Readership
The News Readership program, sponsored by USA Today, was a new initiative for the 2006-2007 school year. It is designed to enhance the learning environment on campuses by providing free access to local (The Kansas City Star) and national (USA Today) newspapers.

Please contact us and let us know your comments on the program or if there are different papers you would like to see.
