Attorney Services
Part of the SGC budget is used to provide legal services to all currently enrolled KUMC (Kansas City campus) students and residents.
All students are notified of attorney availability through MyKUMC and this website.
Appointments are available in 20 minute time slots and generally meet in 3001D Student Center (unless otherwise notified). Due to the limited availability of appointments, these meetings are restricted to only those students who have legitimate legal concerns. Provided legal services can help with concerns of:
- Domestic, Disability
- Landlord/Tenant
- Protection from Abuse (PFA)
- Protection from Stalking (PFS)
- Advanced Directives
- Contract law
- Others, on case-by-case basis
Attorney meetings are free to all currently enrolled students and residents of the KUMC-Kansas City campus. This service is provided by SGC. More information can be found at:
Student Legal Services.
Event Tickets
We will offer tickets to sporting and cultural events throughout the year to registered KUMC students, free of charge.
Distribution of tickets will be based on a lottery system. Lottery tickets will be given out from 7:00-7:30am and the drawing will start at 7:45am (in general). We will draw numbers for as many tickets as we have to distribute. If your number is drawn, you will be able to choose from the remaining tickets. YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO RECEIVE TICKETS! We are unable to reserve or hold tickets for any reason. Tickets are usually given away in pairs (basketball tickets are given as singles).
You must have a KUMC ID to receive any tickets. To use the sporting event tickets (i.e KU basketball, football, etc.) you must also show your ID at the game. However, many of the cultural event tickets may be used by anyone, but must be picked up by a KUMC student.
Check the main page of this site for updates on ticket give-away times and location. This information will also be sent as a Broadcast email and posted in MyKUMC.
Please contact us if you have ideas on tickets that should be offered or ways to improve the system!
Street Fair
Supported by the Rosedale Development Association and with volunteers from the students, faculty, and staff of the University of Kansas Medical Center, the Street Fair is an annual family event held to raise funds to donate to Wyandotte County community organizations. In 2005 funds benefitted Rosedale Middle School and JayDoc Free Health Clinic. Last year proceeds were donated to Wyandotte Boulevard Family Health Clinic.
Currently the Street Fair is in the planning stages. If you would like to be on the committee and be a part of making the Street Fair happen please contact Angela Link, the Street Fair committee chair.
News Readership
The News Readership program, sponsored by USA Today, is a new initiative for the 2006-2007 school year. It is designed to enhance the learning environment on campuses by providing free access to local (The Kansas City Star) and national (USA Today and The New York Times) newspapers.
Please contact us and let us know your comments on the program or if there are different papers you would like to see.
Broadcast Announcement
Broadcast e-mails are used for general announcements and business to staff, faculty and students. Broadcast e-mail is used on an as-needed basis, typically for annual events and special occasions (ex: Student Research Forum). Particular entities on campus have access to broadcast. There are guidelines that will be followed when determining if a broadcast should be sent.
Broadcast Guidelines*
In order to have a broadcast sent, one or more of the following conditions must apply:
- The entire campus or all students by law or due to compliance issues must receive the message. This includes the necessity to keep track of which campus members have received and opened the message.
- The event will potentially benefit all those included in the broadcast and your organization has sufficient reason to believe attendance will suffer without the use of a broadcast. The event should be of general interest to all those included in the broadcast and high attendance numbers should be expected (ex: 100 or more). Generally, only annual events will be approved.
- Administrative Staff Only: Your office has an obligation to communicate official university business to all students given that e-mail is the University’s official mode of communication.
*Please note that the Executive Vice Chancellor may send broadcasts at her discretion.
Broadcast Request Procedure
If the above criteria are met, please submit the on-line broadcast form found at http://www.kumc.edu/studentcenter/broadcast_request.html. Ultimate approval will be made by either Dean Knoll or the Vice Chancellor of External Affairs, depending on the requested audience. If approval is granted, these rules will be followed (exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis):
- The broadcast will be approved and sent by the apporpriate entity.
- The broadcast will ordinarily be sent one time. Therefore, consider the timeframe when the request is made.
